Everything you didn’t know you needed before takeoff
Not sure what to pack? Wondering how to save time, stress or money?
From carry-on hacks to cultural tips. Here you’ll find nine practical sections packed with tips to help you plan smarter, move smoother, and travel better. And at the end, I’ve added a few personal bits of advice
🧭 Before You Go
Things to sort before you even leave the house.
- Essential docs: passport, ID, insurance, and bookings — saved both as PDF and offline, just in case.
- Chargers and adapters: trust us, you won’t find that weird plug at your destination.
- Travel-size toiletries: airport security will love you.
- Offline maps & downloaded entertainment: Netflix at 30,000 feet? Yes.
OUR TIP: 🎒For city breaks, go with a backpack only. You’ll skip the baggage line, move quicker, and yes — you can fit everything for 3–4 days.
🛫 Day of Departure & In-Transit
Today’s the day. Let’s keep it smooth.
- Double check: phone, wallet, keys, passport.
- Dress comfy but layered — airports and planes have moods.
- Reusable water bottle: empty through security, filled before boarding.
- Grab some snacks unless you like airplane mystery meals.
OUR TIP: 🎧Noise-cancelling headphones are your best friend on board. Trust us — airplane engine hum is no lullaby.
🌍 Once You Land
Don’t look like a lost pelican.
- Avoid taxis from the airport. Most places have solid public transport (and apps!).
- Check the basics in your room: plugs, AC, Wi-Fi, bathroom door lock. Yes, really.
- Walk around your hotel area before dark — get a sense of the place.
OUR TIP: 🚘If you must get a ride, go for Uber/Bolt/etc. Local taxis are often overpriced and underregulated.

🏛️ Smarter Sightseeing
You came to explore — not to queue
- Book your tickets online whenever you can — it’ll save you time and stress.
- Go early in the morning or later in the day when places are quieter.
- Check if there are free alternatives — some viewpoints or museums don’t cost a thing.
- And always, always keep an eye on your bag, walltet, phone — popular places = crowded = pickpocket paradise.
OUR TIP: Book ahead, it’s not overplanning — it’s smart travel.
🍕 Food 101
Because you didn’t come all this way for a sad sandwich.
- Learn 5 key words from the local menu (hint: grilled, chicken, spicy, not spicy, dessert).
- Avoid spots with aggressive waiters outside — they rarely lead to greatness.
- Look for where the locals eat. Always.
- Street food? Absolutely. But choose stalls with queues and hot grills.
OUR TIP: 📍Don’t eat near major tourist hubs. Walk a few blocks. Your taste buds (and wallet) will thank you.

🔋 “What If” Scenarios
Here are a few smart habits to keep your trip running smooth:
- Keep a physical note with key numbers: hotel, emergency services, embassy.
- Always charge your phone overnight — 100% in the morning can save your day.
- Don’t flash your phone or wallet in crowded places.
- Trust your gut. If something feels sketchy, skip it.
OUR TIP:📝Don’t rely on memory alone. A small backup — even just one paper with your essentials — can be a lifesaver.
🏠 Coming Home
The trip’s over, but the chaos doesn’t have to be.
- Double check your hotel room before check-out — look under the bed, behind the bathroom door, everywhere.
- Keep travel documents handy for airport control.
- Give yourself time to get to the airport. Google Maps is not your enemy.
OUR TIP:🎁Bought too many souvenirs? Ask your hotel for vacuum bags — magic trick for extra space.
💡A Few Words from the Founder’s Backpack
Quick tips, real talk, and things I wish someone told me sooner.
- If you’re only going for a few days, trust me — skip the suitcase. You’ll be halfway to the city before others even get their bags off the belt. No baggage claim = no delays, less stress, and more exploring.
- It’s worth paying a bit extra for a seat in the front rows — or the very back. You’ll be off the plane faster and at passport control while others are still waiting to stand up. Especially useful if you’re crossing the EU border.
- Always go for the hotel breakfast. It saves time, energy, and money. A solid breakfast fuels your day, no need to wander around looking for food in the morning. Eat well, hit the streets, and don’t stop until dinner, just always have some snacks and water with you.
- Choose your hotel like a food critic. Before you book, check the breakfast photos. If it’s just toast and a sad slice of cheese — run. Go for places with variety. Croissants, eggs, fruit, pancakes, local stuff. The more options on the table, the less bored you’ll be. And while you’re at it — location matters. A central spot near key attractions might cost a bit more, but you’ll save hours on commuting. Worth every cent.
- Eat where the locals eat. The best meals usually come from small, unassuming places where tourists rarely go. It’s cheaper, better, and real. Some of the most unforgettable meals I’ve had were in modest, even slightly rough-looking spots — and I’d go back in a heartbeat.
The best part? Now you have access to these places too — I’ve marked them all in our app, so you can find them instantly. No guessing, just great food.
GOLDEN TIP:🌟Travel solo, you’ll love it. There’s something special about traveling solo. You move at your own pace, eat where you want, see what you want, and never have to compromise. But here’s the real magic: if you’re open to it, you’ll meet fellow solo travellers everywhere. I’ve met people in hostels, cafés, museums – and I’m still in touch with some of them, years later. Want company? You’ll find it. Want to be alone? You can. That freedom is gold. Honestly? I’d rather travel solo than with someone I’m not fully synced with. So don’t worry if it’s your first time — the world is full of people doing the exact same thing.
One last thing before you go
Right below you’ll find a handy little visual — a cheat sheet of the most useful travel rules to keep in mind, including a few reminders for those flying solo. Simple, clear, and easy to save for later.
